How to become a Company Secretary?

To complete the Company Secretary course, you have to clear the three levels of the examination conducted by 'The Institute of Company Secretaries of India' (ICSI) which is the regulatory body governing this course.

The three levels of the CS course are:-

 ●  Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET)

 ●  CS Executive Programme

 ●  CS Professional Programme

Level 1 - Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET)

Eligibility 

 ●  A student who has passed or is appearing in 12th exam is eligible to appear in the CSEET exam.

 ●  All graduates or postgraduates are also required to write this CSEET exam for registration to CS Executive Programme.

Syllabus of Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET)

CSEET is a computer based exam of 2 hours which is conducted on a single day.

There are 4 subjects in CSEET exam - 

 ●  Paper 1: Business Communication (50 Marks)

 ●  Paper 2: Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning (50 Marks)

 ●  Paper 3: Economic and Business Environment (50 Marks)

 ●  Paper 4: Current Affairs (20 Marks), Presentation and Communication Skills (Viva Voce) (30 marks)

Passing criteria

A candidate is declared as passed in the CSEET exam if he/she secures a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

Level 2 - CS Executive course details

Eligibility

All Graduates/ Post Graduates are required to pass the CSEET to become eligible for registration to Executive Programme.

Syllabus of CS Executive Programme

There are 2 Modules within the Executive Programme -

Module I

 ●  Jurisprudence, Interpretation and General Laws (100 Marks)

 ●  Company Law (100 Marks)

 ●  Setting up of Business Entities and Closure (100 Marks)

 ●  Tax Laws (100 Marks)

Module II

 ●  Corporate and Management Accounting (100 Marks)

 ●  Securities Laws and Capital Markets (100 Marks)

Passing criteria

A candidate is declared as passed in the CS Executive exam if he/she secures a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and 50% marks in the aggregate of all subjects.

Training

For all CS executive pass students, there is a training requirement for 24 months which needs to done as below -

(a) 1 month EDP (15 days direct and 15 days online mode), and

(b) 21 months practical training in company and PCS, and

(c) Corporate Leadership Development Programme not less than 30 days but not exceeding 60 days as determined by the Institute.

Level 3 - CS Professional Course Details

Eligibility

To pursue the CS Professional Programme, you need to clear the Executive Programme of the CS Course.

There are 3 Modules within the CS Professional course -
